Hankyeol Yoon graduated from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich where he obtained his Bachelor Diploma in Piano and Master diplomas in Composition (2017) and Orchestra Conducting (2021).
In 2019 he attended the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy and won the Neeme Järvi Prize (First Prize of the conducting competition). As the winner he conducted the Basel Chamber Orchestra and will conduct the Basel and Bern Symphony Orchestras. In 2021 he was awarded Second Prize and Audience Prize at the First KSO International Conducting Competition (South Korea).
From 2019 to 2021, he worked as a Kapellmeister at the Theater und Orchester Neubrandenburg / Neustrelitz in Germany. Previously, he worked as an Assistant Conductor at the Staatstheater Nürnberg, at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, as well as at the Heidenheim Opera Festival at the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker. Recently, he was engaged as an Assistant Conductor to Daniel Harding with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2022 he will be at the Lucerne Festival as part of Conductor Fellowship and work as an Assistant Conductor to Thomas Adès.
From 2019 to 2021, Hankyeol Yoon is one of the two mentored composers at the Peter Eötvös Foundation in Budapest. His compositions have been performed and conducted by Peter Eötvös under instructions of Sir George Benjamin. His compositions have already been awarded in several international competitions: Second Prize at the First Luciano Berio International Composition Competition in Rome 2020, Second Prize at the Concours de Geneve 2015, Third Prize & Audience Award at the Concours de Geneve 2017.
