Samy Rachid, a former cellist and founding member of the Arod Quartet cut corners since he decided in 2021 to fulfill his dream to become a conductor.
Barely a few months after his decision to leave the quartet, he won the Second Prize of the Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting. He was then selected to be part of the 2022 Verbier Festival as Conducting Fellow and at the same time, work alongside Gianandrea Noseda, Klaus Mäkelä, Charles Dutoit, Christophe Eschenbach among others.
After only one project with the Orchestre Elektra, the musicians invited him to become their Musical Director.
Samy works closely with Mathieu Herzog and the Orchestre Appassionato for several projects, mainly with prominent singers such as Roberto Alagna, Ludovic Tezier and Nadine Sierra. In 2021, he conducted the PKF Prague Philharmonia, Tokyo Philharmonic, New Japan Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg (France), Hungarian Symphony Orchestra Szeged, Orchestre Elektra (France), and will perform in 2022 with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.
In 2015, as a member of the Arod Quartet he won First Prize and two special prizes at the Carl Nielsen String Quartet Competition and in 2016, First Prize and two special prizes at the ARD Competition in Munich. He recorded several albums for Warner Classics.
